Meet Rev. Clare Austen, Senior Minister

Clare graduated from Unity School of Religious Studies’ Ministerial Program in 1988 and was ordained in 1989. She served Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO for five years beginning as a student in 1987 and continuing as the Associate Minister until 1993. Clare then served Unity Center of Columbia in Columbia, Missouri for eight years before coming to Spokane.

Clare was born and raised in Camas, Washington and has a BA Degree in Human Services from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She also studied photography and journalism at both Clark College in Vancouver, Washington and Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon. Before ministry, Clare worked as a social worker and a media production assistant creating slide shows and videos.

Along with ministry, her passions today include environmental education and the healing of racism.  Clare has been a leader in the Unity movement for many years serving on the Association of Unity Churches' Licensing and Ordination, Admissions, and Convention Teams.  She has served as a memeber of the Association Board (1996 - 2004) and as chair of the board (2002 - 2003).

Meet Rev. Jackie Green, Youth & Family Minister

My personal mission statement: "To honor the past, celebrate the present and vision the future." 

Jacolyn Green, aka Jackie, has been a member of Spokane Unity Church of Truth since 1972. Beginning in 1973 as a volunteer with Unity youth she evolved into serving as Youth Education Director and later Y.O.U. sponsor with her husband, Wayne. In 1979 she was hired by the Northwest Region of the Association of Unity Churches to serve as Youth Education Consultant (Y.O.U./Uniteens), a role that she continues to hold.

In 1981 she expanded her focus when she was hired as Director of Youth and Family Ministry here at our church. In 1985 Jackie became a Licensed Unity Teacher, in 1993 she was certified as a Spiritual Educator (Director, Children, Uniteens and Y.O.U.) A graduate of the Association of Unity Churches Field Licensing Program, Jackie was ordained as a Unity Minister in 2004.

Jackie was born and raised in Chickasha Oklahoma. Receiving her Bachelors Degree in Speech Therapy from Oklahoma College for Women in 1959, Jackie worked for Wichita KS and Oklahoma City OK school districts as well as Dr John Boland Clinic as a speech therapist.

Much of Jackie’s life is focused on her personal family that miraculously continues to expand.
